Sometimes I would like to have my house demolished as it looks terrible. I think I must have the worst house in the best street. This is solely due to neglect and not having the available funds to undertake renovations. If I come into some money I have many plans for this house - I'd need to buy in all kinds of materials to improve this house - from velcro tape to wooden floorboards. I would like to have the brick work redone and a paint as it looks rather old. Having an attic would be great as it allow me to view the sea and the city skyscrapers. As for the garage I would like to have an underground garage that is situated under the house which has remote control doors. It would have the room for at least four cars and have an elevator which would take me to the house. I would have an elaborate fence around the house to deter any theft or damage. I hope I do come into some money. It would make a world of difference. |

When my husband and I moved into our three bedroom house, we weren't thinking about starting a family. We set up our bedroom and the guest room, and we used the smaller third bedroom for storage. By the time I became pregnant, the room was a mess! Not only was there barely any room to move because of the extra furniture, storage boxes, and random items, but the carpet and walls were extremely dirty.
I hark back to my previous job as a tank cleaning employee, and channelled all that previous enthusiasm I had for my old job into this new one!
We spent our first weekend of cleanup getting rid of the larger furniture items, like a nightstand, two dressers, and an old chair, and sorting through the boxes. We set a few items out on the curb for trash pickup and we were able to sell a few on Craigslist. The second weekend was spending throwing away a lot of smaller items and cleaning. We vacuumed, changed out the light switch, and replaced the blinds. Finally, the last weekend was spent painting the room a light shade of green for the new baby. It was a lot of work but the end result was definitely worth it. |

I love restoration work - old town halls, churches, community halls, banks, you name it - if it's old and from another generation, I love to give it a face lift. I'm often looking in Google for contracts e.g. entering keywords like roofing contractors uk - on the hunt for such restoration work. The UK has a tremendous history when it comes to buildings. Some date back 1500 years - that puts the USA and Australia in the shade! And so I feel like these jobs are really part of restoring our rich history and making sure the generation of kids growing up can enjoy the buildings themselves and not see them go to ruin. Some restoration jobs require just subtle work, others require quite extensive work. It's the latter kind of job that I'm most wary of - there's a fine line between restoration, an re-build. You definitely want to keep the original building materials if possible. |

I live in a small house with limited storage space and no closets. But what I do have are DIY tools like masonry saws, and some skills so I can put them to some use! I plan on building shelving units in a wasted space in my bathroom. This space is an extended area about three feet in length behind the bathroom door that would be perfect for storing things such as towels and cleaning supplies. I also plan on adding a built in hanging bar to use as a closet in the bedroom for clothes, as well as a few shelves for shoes and other items. I hope to make this an enclosed space with sliding doors, to resemble an outward closet. The next project will be the kitchen. It is a very small kitchen, but extends into the dining room where I plan on building a closed pantry unit for food. This will be painted a terracotta orange color, which is also in my kitchen, to accent the dining room entryway. |

When litter is left on the streets, it gives a negative impression to everyone around. Not only does it look like members of the community don’t care about where they live, it could also come across appearing as though the area is dangerous, or low in income. Simple things, like a little vandalism left unrepaired, or regular trash left on the sidewalk, can lead to additional crimes.
It may look to a would-be criminal that he/she can get away with this type of activity. Fortunately, litter left on the streets is a problem that can be addressed pretty easily. Are there enough trash cans and recycling bins? Do store owners and home owners go out and sweep the sidewalk in front of their property? A community-wide clean up day could also help get the clean up attitude started and bring the community together.
And even if we can't stop people littering, then councils need to work harder to keep the streets clean - employing high powered equipment like diesel pressure washers to wash off paint and grime from the pavements and walls.
No one wants to live in an area where litter is prevalent, so by helping keep your streets clean, you are adding to the attractiveness and value of the area. |
