Getting My First Cavity At Age 25

My friend and I were talking about cosmetic dentists in darlington the other day and it got me thinking "I need a checkup". For some reason I had scheduled a dental cleanup with a new dentist on my 25th birthday. Since I've never had a cavity, nor braces, nor any other work ever done on my teeth or gums beyond the normal cleaning, I wasn't worried about it. Well, after the cleaning and x-rays, Dr. Mardis comes in to tell me the bad news - I had a cavity - my first! He then asked me if I wanted the x-rays so I could get a second opinion. I was, "No, why would I - you're the dentist. That's what I'm paying YOU for". He laughed and said when he had first started in practice, a guy had asked him for the x-rays to get a second opinion. Dr. Mardis was a little teed off and asked, "Why? Don't you trust me?". Dr. Mardis said he never forgot the guy's response. The guy had replied, "I trust my mom too, but I still cut the cards." Dr. Mardis was my dentist up until his death...and 25 years later, I still only have the one cavity! I guess all those admonitions from Mom about brushing morning noon and night paid off.
