When Arem sent the email to all of us (her circle of friends at work) I was surprised and sad at the same time. I mean why would she want to resign without any advance warning? There has been no indication that she was planning to do this. I racked my brain for any subtle signs but could not find any. As expected I was not the only one upset by this news losing a friend at work is downright depressing. Lucy then told me during lunch that Arem got a really tempting offer from a search engine optimization firm that is set to start its operations early next month from the building across ours. So it really isn't a big loss since we would still be seeing her on a daily basis as she would be working from across our building. I felt a little better hearing that but still a part of me was questioning why she did not tell us till the last minute. I mean she sent us the email the same time she handed her resignation letter to our boss. |

Due to my hectic schedule I haven't been able to log in to my Facebook account for quite some time now. Between work and school there really isn't much time to do anything else in between. Heck, I hardly have time to study let alone go surfing online. My friends actually complained about it since I have missed a lot of lunches and movie dates with them. Oh well just blame it on my schedule. Anyways last night I was having a hard time falling asleep I ended up turning my laptop on and logging in on Facebook. I was overwhelmed by the number of notifications I was getting. There were several private messages from friends and Edwin sent me a pdf file on internet sales and marketing. What am I supposed to do with that? I mentally asked. Seriously Edwin has this knack for sending odd things online, it's a good thing he never sends out files with viruses on them. Then I saw another message this time is a wedding invitation from Shelly. Wow! So wedding invites don't arrive in envelopes these days, they just do it in Facebook. |

One of my neighbors is being sued because apparently he took ownership of her song that was not rightfully his, and there is enough tangible proof that will become a disadvantage to him. The one thing that he did and was really dumb was that he recorded the song, not even in a music studio that was recognized, he did it at his place, made a video and then uploaded the video and the lyrics on youtube, passing that as his own music. That was during July and early August, the real owner of the music saw the video and you can imagine how he was really annoyed. What made everything worse was that he had recorded the song before my neighbour did and he even had the music copy rights. The video was blocked and no one would watch it, I suppose this was even worse than youtube slow 2010 aug. He had to pay for the damages and he was not happy about that at all. At times it is just best not to pass someone else's work for your own because you will pay dearly for that. |

Facebook. Who knew what it was? Apparently I didn't, because I was happy on MySpace, posting my poems and responding to other poems by other poets. I had no idea about all these things like Farmville and Facebook banners and what not.
Apparently my friend Linda did know, because she invited me to be her FB friend. I had an account there, and I can't recall why I opened it. But Linda was my first kindergarten friend (we are now both 52 years old) and my first FB friend. I was happy on MySpace. I had my poems, and I had my poet friends, and no-one knew who I was. But gradually I left MySpace - the poets and the poetry groups were moving on to other networking sites, ones specifically for creative writing. I missed my MySpace friends, but we found each other two years later on FB. I didn't know you could blog there (blogging on FB is known as "notes"). I had a place for my poems, but not the anonymity. Damned if I was going to have *two* FB accounts - I could hardly keep track of one! - one anonymous, the other, well, *me.* One thing leads to another, and one friend leads to another. Unlike Linda, I don't 1,500+ FB friends, but there seemed to be pressure to have as many "friends" as possible. I'm happy with my 163, and half of those are bands and musicians whom I don't know personally. Now I refer to FB for good friends, good tunes, and political causes. But damned if I'll have more than 1,500 of them. |

My favorite website is Lemon Tree Creations, a blog run by a group of moms who are also school teachers. The website is designed to feature various crafts and parties that are simple, homemade but stunningly beautiful. As a reviewer for a web design directory, I appreciate the simple design of this site too.
The women who run the site take turns each day of the week to feature a different idea about crafting, home decor, parties, cooking, etc. They specialize in using recycled or found objects such as old clocks as well as easy to find craft supplies such as paint and scrap book paper. They have given me great ideas for home decor, parties I want to throw for my future children (such as the radio flyer wagon birthday) and for my elementary classroom. There are always step by step instructions and the site is one of the first I check each morning when I go online. |
